One theory to explain why the apostles died to believe Jesus is resurrected is the theory that some scholars think that Mary Magdalene and the disciples were mistaken by the wrong tomb.
This would mean that they were mistaken by another tomb that was empty, but Jesus was still dead in another tomb.
This theory tries to explain why Jesus’ followers went to their death proclaiming the Good News.
There is a simple issue with this theory.
In Acts, the story records the disciples publically announcing Jesus’ resurrection.
36 “Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.”
Acts 2:36-37
37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”
If Jesus was actually still dead, wouldn’t the people that Peter was preaching to at Pentecost show them the actual tomb with Jesus’ body? The problem is that they couldn’t, because Jesus resurrected from the dead.

Not to mention Jesus appearing to the disciples in the upper room and later appearing to Thomas when he was with the disciples. Thomas refused to believe Jesus rose from the dead but definitely changed his mind when Christ suddenly appeared to them and told Thomas to see the print of the nails and put his hand into the wound in his side John 20:26-27.
