Genesis 1:1 says, “In the beginning of God created the heavens and the earth.” God viewed his creation as “Very good” (Gen. 1:31). God created man in His own image. In Eden, there was no sin, no death, and no struggles. God had one command for man, to not eat from the tree of good and evil. However, Eve followed by Adam choose to eat from that tree and because of their rebellion from God, sin entered the world.
Because of their sin, every human since then has been born with a sinful nature, and we cannot overcome sin on our own. Each of us, everyday, falls short of perfection. Romans 5:12 says that “Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned.” Because of our sins, we are not worthy to enter God’s presence.
However, God has a plan for our rescue from our sins. This is because God still loves us, despite our sin. Jesus Christ was conceived of a virgin and was fully God, and fully man. Jesus lived a perfect, sinless, life, so he was the perfect sacrifice for our sins so that we could enter the presence of God. Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Sin leads to death, but Jesus was the necessary sacrifice for our sin so that we could enter the presence of God.
Jesus overcame sin and death when he rose from the dead after dying on the cross for us. He has redeemed us from our sin and sent us the Holy Spirit so that we can have God in us. Jesus ascended into heaven but is coming back to set up a new heaven and a new earth. Salvation is a free gift from God, but we must repent from our sins and ask for it. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” God has given us a way to be reunited through his son, Jesus Christ.
