A good God would never let the people that He loves go through pain. So, either God doesn’t exist, He doesn’t love us, or He isn’t powerful enough to end suffering.

Pain, pain, pain, that’s all we ever hear about.

What about joy? If the pain that we experience on a daily basis is a product of random chance, then joy and happiness would have to be as well.

I prefer to believe that I have a God who loves me so much, that despite my incredible faults and my constant sin, He still finds it right and just to give me joy, even though I can give Him nothing that He doesn’t already have. Yet, He loves me so much, that He still gives me constant Joy in Him and constant encouragement, not just out of the blue, but every time I ask Him to encourage me or guide me, He is right there with the Spirit as my Guide, God as my Rock and Jesus as my Hope.

I deserve nothing, but He has given me everything.

In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation.

1 Peter 5:10

I am not sure about you, but that idea is a lot more comforting than a void and a set of cosmic dice.

Whenever, an atheist confronts me with the question, “How could God exist when there is so much suffering in the world?” I always answer, “I would prefer to think that there is a reason that I am suffering and that reason will lead to a better future. It is much harder to believe that we suffer just to suffer.

I would also like to have the assurance that there is a God in heaven that is holding me in His hand and protecting me from even more suffering.

No matter what, humans will experience pain.

Would you rather grow through your pains, have the assurance, through faith, that the pain you are going through will actually help you later in life?

Or would you rather believe that your pain has no meaning?
