The Books of the Maccabees is an area of major debate among Christian denominations.

The Books of The Maccabees is included in the Catholic and Orthodox canon, but not the Protestant canon.

In my opinion, these books should not be included in the canon.

Jesus makes no mention of these books during any of his ministry.

Additionally, Jesus sets the range for Old Testament Prophethood. Luke 11:51 says:

“From the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who was killed between the altar and the sanctuary. Yes, I tell you, this generation will be held responsible for it all”

Luke 11:51

Zechariah lived right around 500 BC, in contrasts to the dates of the authorship of The Maccabees, which were written around 100-200 BC.

The Books of the Maccabees are clearly outside the range of the Old Testament canon.
